چکیده

The wear mechanisms of cutting tools made of tungsten-carbide (WC), PCBN and PCD were investigated using the tool life and temperature results available in the literature. For tool/work combinations WC/steel and PCBN/hardened-steel, under practical conditions, tool wear was found to be greatly influenced by the temperature. It was concluded that the most likely dominant tool wear mechanism for WC is diffusion and that for PCBN is chemical wear. For PCD, more experimental results and hence further research is required to determine the dominant wear mechanism. q 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Experimental Analysis of Cryogenic Treatment on Coated Tungsten Carbide Inserts in Turning

This research work presents the results of an experimental investigation of cryogenically treated, coated and uncoated tungsten carbide cutting tool inserts in turning of AISI 1040 steel. Three different tungsten carbide inserts coated with aluminum chromium nitride (AlCrN), titanium nitride (TiN) and uncoated WC were taken and treated cryogenically. Experiments were performed to evaluate the c...

Precision Cutting of Structured Ceramic Molds with Micro PCD Milling Tool

In order to machine micro structured dies and molds made of ceramics, micro milling tools made of poly-crystalline diamond (PCD) are developed. Many cutting edges are ground with diamond wheels. Tool wears of the PCD milling tool are evaluated by cutting spherical molds made of binder-less tungsten carbide and structured surfaces are machined for trial. From the experiments, it is clarified tha...

Prediction of Tool Wear and Tool Life with Condition Monitoring System on End Milling of EN31

This paper describes the tool life prediction model with end milling EN31 tool steel using P30 Tungsten uncoated carbide tool. The data set from the Taguchi method design is taken. For discussion the effects of cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut on tool life of P30 are considered. This paper suggests a novel technique for the tool wear measurement based on machine vision. Tool images are...
